— Postdoctoral Fellows —

Rolande Aurélie Tchouateu Kamwa

Research Project: Sustainable cementitious materials and additive manufacturing: hydration, rheology, and 3D printing.

Rolande Aurélie Tchouateu Kamwa obtained her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry of Materials from the University of Douala, Cameroon, in 2022. Her doctoral research focused on the development of sustainable construction materials through geopolymer technology and the valorization of locally available resources. Following her Ph.D., she joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University Institute of Technology (IUT) of Douala as a lecturer in January 2023. In June 2023, while continuing her academic activities, she began postdoctoral research at the Institut de Minéralogie, de Physique des Matériaux et de Cosmochimie (IMPMC), Sorbonne University, France, where she worked until 2025.

In April 2026, she joined the University of Ottawa, where she works on the development of sustainable cementitious materials and extrusion-based additive manufacturing. Her current research combines material formulation and hydration studies with rheological characterization and extrusion-based 3D printing to understand how the physicochemical and fresh-state properties of cementitious materials interact with the characteristics and operating parameters of the printing system to govern printability. Emphasis is placed on low-carbon cement systems and the valorization of locally available resources for the development of sustainable and printable construction materials. Her broader research interests include low-carbon cementitious materials, chemically activated binders, advanced material characterization, and sustainable construction technologies.


— PhD Candidates —

Fatemeh Rahimi co-supervised with Dr. Andrew Anstey (University of Ottawa)

Research project: Elaboration of TiO2-coated flax fiber PLA-based composites for 3D-printed insulation panel application.

Fatemeh graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Sharif University of Technology and a master's in polymer engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology in Iran. After two years of working as a research and development expert in the polymer additives industry, she started her Ph.D. program in the fall of 2022 at the University of Ottawa. The main aim of her project is to enhance the dispersion of flax natural fibers as a sustainable reinforcement agent in the PLA matrix to prepare an appropriate eco-friendly filament for the 3D printing of insulation panels.

Callisto Ariadne Beuthe

Research project: Enhancing Spruce Wood Performance: The Efficacy of Pre-Treatments and Bio-Based Nano-Particles.

Callisto graduated in May 2021 from the University of Ottawa with a BASc in Civil Engineering, focusing on Structural and Geotechnical studies. She commenced her Master's degree in Civil Engineering at the same university under Dr. Reza Foruzanmehr's supervision in September 2021. Her research project demonstrated her keen interest in structural engineering and her commitment to incorporating wood and other sustainable, innovative materials into building design. Callisto completed her Master's degree in December 2023 and has since enrolled as a PhD student, continuing her goals in sustainable material development.

Adams Balade Abubakar

Research project: Rheological characterization of cementitious materials and development of a test method for determining the printability zone of 3D printers.

Adams graduated with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria in 2017. Following his graduation, he worked for four years as a quality control assistant engineer on various construction projects in Nigeria, particularly in road and building construction. Building on this professional experience, he completed his master's degree in civil engineering (Structures) at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia from 2022 to 2024. Soon afterwards, he completed a six-month internship at the Modern Technology Laboratory in Jeddah, where he contributed to the Jeddah Tower project. During this internship, he was involved in developing concrete mixes incorporating fly ash as a partial replacement for ordinary Portland cement, achieving compressive strengths above 90 MPa and a predicted service life of over 120 years. In the Fall of 2025, he began his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa. His research primarily focuses on developing methods for determining the printability zone of extrusion-based 3D cementitious printers by correlating material composition, rheological properties, and printing performance.


— Master Students —

Romal Mohammad Wakil

Research project: Metakaolin based alkaline activated binders.

I developed a strong interest in engineering from an early age. After completing high school with excellent academic performance, I was fortunate to enroll in the Civil Engineering program at Nangarhar University, one of Afghanistan's top universities. I studied for five years and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

During my final year, I began working as a site engineer with a construction company under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Over the next four years, I focused on quality control management in various projects, gaining expertise in USACE's Quality Control System (QCS) and Government Residential Management System (RMS).

My duties included managing quality control, safety, mobilization, and security plans, and overseeing field inspections and material testing (concrete, soil, asphalt). As a Quality Control Director, I successfully led the construction of water well houses and army bases for the Afghan Army, earning several awards and recognition for my work.

Asma Eshraghi

Research project: Formulation optimization of two-component polyurethane roof coatings.

Asma Eshraghi began her bachelor's degree at Sharif University of Technology in Iran in 2018 and completed it in 2022. During her undergraduate studies, she investigated the effects of heat treatment on the mechanical properties and crystallinity of 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA). In mid-2024, she began her master's program in Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa under the supervision of Professor Reza Foruzanmehr. Her current research focuses on optimizing the formulation of two-component waterproofing polyurethane roof coatings to achieve a suitable balance of mechanical strength, flexibility, and water resistance.

Marzieh Mohammadrezaei

Research project: Durability and long-term performance of polyurethane-based roof coatings.

Marzieh received her bachelor's degree in physics and her first master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering (thesis-based) from Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Ahvaz, Iran. In January 2026, she began her second master's degree in civil engineering at the University of Ottawa. Her current research focuses on the long-term durability of polyurethane-based roof coatings. Her research interests include polymer-based materials, material characterization, and sustainable materials for civil engineering applications.
